Real Life Stories Program

Agents, the non-profit organization Life Happens is currently accepting applications for its annual Real Life Stories program. Have you witnessed clients benefit from purchasing life insurance, annuities, disability, or long-term care insurance (including a hybrid policy)? Have you personally experienced a similar event? Life Happens is looking to feature these true stories to help the public understand the importance of insurance. You can submit your personal experience as well. The entries that best demonstrate how insurance and a licensed professional or insurance company assisted clients through challenging financial situations will be chosen for the Real Life Stories program. The organization will feature a select few entries in its insurance education resources.

What type of real-life stories are featured?

Stories may qualify in one of the following four categories:

Life Insurance – Death Benefits (individual or workplace): The entry should highlight the real-life experience of a family or business whose financial circumstances gained help from the death benefits supported through the policy or policies involved.

Disability or Long-Term Care Insurance (individual or workplace): The story should detail the real-life experience of a person who became disabled, ill, or required long-term care services but who, through insurance, has or had the financial stability to uphold his or her quality of life.

Individual Life Insurance – Cash Values or Living Benefits or Critical Illness Rider: This story should relate to the real-life experience of a family or business that used a policy’s cash values/living benefits/critical illness rider and could have received assistance from a policy’s death benefits.

Annuity: This story should describe the real-life experience of a person currently benefiting from an annuity.

What are the rules and eligibility?

Any person can submit a story. It must demonstrate the usefulness of one of the insurance policies described above. Life Happens strongly suggests the entry involves an active licensed professional or team member in the submitted material. There is no cost to enter. You can submit your online application form as a written essay or video at the Real-Life link below.

Your essay or video must be original. The beneficiary must be willing to share his or her experience. The story must include a paid claim or benefits accessed during the previous ten years, but five years is preferred. The organization accepts applications throughout the year, but the deadline for sending in your entry is December 1, 2023.
